Often people come to the shop in groups so this variety is an advantage, as people want different things, Alshari said. It also serves several flavors of non-dairy soft serve ice cream and will be adding a non-dairy almond milk base for rolled ice cream. “Here, we allow the customers to create their flavor.”Ĭherry Chill uses a gelato base and customers may select from a range of fresh ingredients, such as strawberries and a slice of cheesecake or their favorite candy bar, for a customized flavor.Īlshari isn’t concerned about the eventual waning of the rolled ice cream trend because his shop offers a diverse range of treats, including more than 12 flavors of frozen yogurt, organic fruit smoothies, protein shakes and edible arrangements. “We’re different from many of the places that make it,” Alshari said. Moe Alshari, owner of Cherry Chill in Ontario, said that the best thing about serving rolled ice cream is seeing the customers’ reactions when they watch it being made. My partner and I have been experimenting lately and have a couple ideas. We haven’t figured out what we want to do next yet.” “Most likely we’re going to have to be doing other things. “My partner and I jumped into when there were no other shops around in Orange County, however, we were a little slow in our build-up and a couple of other places opened before we did,” Vo said. Vo says he is realistic that rolled ice cream is a trend and that the increase in shops serving it may contribute to its diminishing demand. “I know a couple of other stores buy their bases pre-made already and add their own flavorings.” “I make everything in-house from milk, cream, sugar, all the good stuff,” Vo said. There are good desserts everywhere, but there’s nothing healthy.”ĭanny Vo, owner of The Joint Creamery in Garden Grove, said that rolled ice cream is popular because it’s different in that you can watch it being made, you can create a wide variety of flavors and it usually has a fresher taste that pre-made ice cream. “I want to serve all kinds of dessert with the ice cream, like ice cream waffles, ice cream crepes, beginning with fresh ingredients,” Kim said, “I want to make more healthy desserts. For this reason, he will be adding smoothies, juices and shakes to Holy Roly’s menu and is planning to eventually spread out into a range of desserts. There are many shops popping up all over, but he thinks people will get bored with it, like they have with frozen yogurt. Kim believes that the rolled ice cream trend will drop off within a couple of years. If the store is busy, it’s not uncommon to have a 30-40 minute wait time for orders. Holy Roly also serves scooped ice cream, which helps when orders for rolled ice cream get backed up. Currently Holy Rolly offers vegan coconut and mango rolled ice cream. Milks like coconut and almond are watery and freeze too quickly to be rolled, so he had to find other organic ingredients to help the mixture stick together while keeping the cost affordable. Holy Roly also has vegan ice cream, which presented an extra challenge for Kim to create, as the base needed to be non-dairy. His biggest sellers are Strawberry Graham, Banana Nutella and Oreo with either a vanilla or coffee base. Kim started Holy Roly with eight flavors and now adds a new selection every month based on suggestions from his staff or Instagram followers. The finished rolls of ice cream are placed on end in a bowl, graced with toppings and served. Using a spatula, the ice cream artist gradually works along the square rolling slices. The mixture is then spread out on the ice-pan and pushed into a square shape. The two are blended with a spatula until the mixture begins to solidify. Once they are broken down, the mix-ins are spread evenly on the ice-pan and the cream base is poured over them. The ice-pan is maintained at a temperature of -15 degrees which causes the ingredients to freeze rapidly. The artist begins making the ice cream by crushing the mix-in ingredients, such as fruit, graham crackers or Oreo cookies, on the metal ice-pan. After an order is placed, the “ice cream artist,” as Kim calls his employees, gathers the cream base and mix-ins.

If you want to add interest to an archway or small section of wall you can paint on a geometric pattern. Image credit Fall For DIY Paint an archway It is a subtle wall paining idea that you could do in an afternoon. The mint green is very much on trend and is similar to Dulux’s colour of the year 2020 – Tranquil Dawn. It adds interest to the room without overpowering all the other accessories they have on display. This example from Fall for DIY is in their home office. It’s a reading nook for the girls and gives just enough colour to this space. This is the half wall I’ve painted in the girls bedroom to update and highlight this space between the built-in wardrobes. It’s a very quick update and makes a statement. You can go half way or three quarters of the way up the wall. Paint halfway up a wallĮver if you don’t have a period property with a dado rail, picture rail or other architectural feature you can still update your home by painting part of the wall. Once you have painters tape, an idea of what you want to achieve and a few tester pots you will be amazed at what you can do. I am not an artist, so I’ve only carried out paint projects that involve straight lines and colouring in the gaps! I know from experience if you build it up in your head you will never start. The main thing here is not to take it too seriously. Below are some wall painting ideas for you to try at home. It’s cheap, it’s quick and if it doesn’t work out you can always paint over it. The easiest way to do this is with paint. The current worldwide situation has a lot of people spending endless hours in their home and thinking about ways they can update or improve it. Regardless, we'll reserve our final judgment until we test both versions ourselves since the devices that ran the benchmark could be pre-production units, and the retail versions should yield better results in synthetic tests. I’m extremely happy to report that the Timeless finale is every bit as good as fans want it to be. Also starring Abigail Spencer, Matt Lanter, Goran Višnjic, Sakina Jaffrey, Paterson Joseph and Claudia Doumit. Stuck with no way out, our team faces its toughest challenge yet, and in the process, come to terms with their feelings for each other. Then chasing the Mothership to Korea in the winter of 1950, our team helps a stranded, pregnant refugee attempt to escape a tragic fate. But when the Mothership jumps to 1848 California, they’re forced to put those plans on hold and chase Rittenhouse back to the Gold Rush, where they encounter one of the era’s most dangerous villains. Showalter)Īs Christmas arrives in the Bunker, the Time Team is inspired by a visit from their future selves to find a way to try to save Rufus (Malcolm Barrett). (Note: This review will be SPOILER-FREE!)Įpisodes 211 and 212: The Miracle of Christmas (Part 1 written by Lauren Greer, Part 2 written by Arika Lisanne Mittman directed by John F. This movie-length finale manages to deliver most of the answers fans are craving while also providing an extremely entertaining and well-written two-hours of television. But that’s exactly what the cast and crew of NBC’s Timeless have managed to do with their 90-minute series finale The Miracle of Christmas. Especially when you were prematurely canceled after your second season finale featured a cliffhanger so big it couldn’t possibly be satisfyingly resolved in a 90-minute film. This series needs a lot more clever writing than this.Nailing a series finale isn’t an easy task. They would had million ways to destroy Lucy and Wyatt and everyone. I just cannot get over with why Rittenhouse was so stupid in this season. And those plot holes! Jeez! For instance, why did they reveal every sleeper agent by travelling mothership right when they activated them? Why not go back 5 years and give sleepers orders to assassinate someone years later? It would be impossible to track down sleepers and stop them. Like it seems to impossible to shoot Emma over 2 meter distance ( even by trained soldier). Not a great show or "a masterpiece" like reviews here are calling it, but mediocre scifi, with a lot of plot armour with characters. I almost gave up on the show in about middle of the season, but endured to the end. It's cheaper to chat about feelings than make interesting time traveling. Maybe this is also reason why story involved a lot of soap opera type love interest drama. There was only one really wide angle shot in this seasons (first episode) all other episodes have been using really tightly boxed in shots and recycled, cheap sets. On the whole, it seems that Timeless have had serious budget cutbacks this season. Final thought, we all know the show was cancelled last year, then brought back, and now there's a huge possibility of a third season renewal, hence, i'd really like to meet that guy who made them believe that there is a chance to take in this project and thank him face to face. i mean things here are "timeless" so who knows !! The cast was also here more engaging, they were all just the perfect team of time travelers and almost in all the episodes with presenting a new story they felt like they'v been doing this forever. Seriously his banter and short comic answers just made the show looks much more attractive, and even making him right there part of the love triangle with Lucy and Wayyat was good planning, I'm actually rooting for him to end up with Lucy, other than having my own theory that Lucy is actually his wife. The plot stayed strong, Adding Flynn to the mix and making him well a bit lovable was in my opinion the best choice the writers ever done, like probably ever :D The plot of Rittenhouse kept on thickening till it exploded in the finally. each and every episode had it's rightful well calculated time of Action, Drama and Comedy. I mean the first season was okay and it had a couple of exciting moments, but this one in here a 10 hours connected masterpiece. To cut right to the chase, I unexpectedly loved this season much more than i did the first one. Seems young overall, with its heavy organic off-notes – but there is definitely something very Japanese about it, with reasonable complexity for a blend. Slight funk, suggesting a lightly peated element in the blend. Unfortunately, I am also getting paint thinner (turpentine) and nail polish remover (acetone). Surprisingly, I’m detecting signs of Mizunara oak. There’s a soft floral component (rosewater?). Nose: Caramel, vanilla and honey to start. Given the dark colour, I’m sure caramel colouring has been used. If nothing else, I love the label design.īottled at 40% ABV. But for the sake of the local enthusiast community, I thought I’d take a plunge and buy a bottle. Given the incredible demand for Japanese whisky, I’m a little dubious as to what BBC Spirits would have been able to source at the moment. FYI, Honshu is the main island of Japan – and eight out of the nine currently operating whisky distilleries are located there. FUYU is a powerful and generous blend, true expression of the Japanese cellar masters’ blending know-how. Our handcrafted blended whisky comes from several distilleries, on Honshu island, that have been carefully selected by BBC. Here is what BBC Spirits website has to say about this blend:įUYU means WINTER. The former and latter statements at least give some reassurance that it is actually Japanese whisky in the bottle. So what to make of Fuyu? The label doesn’t have a lot of detail, other than to state it is blended Japanese whisky, small batch (which is meaningless on a whisky), and a product of Japan. At the moment, a lot Scottish and Canadian whisky is making its way to Japan to be bottled by these companies – in fancy-looking bottles meant to mimic the established distillers. There are many new entries on the shelves – but from Japanese spirit makers who either don’t distill whisky, or have just started operations (and are therefore sourcing their whisky from elsewhere for sale). On a trip to Tokyo last month, I was dismayed by how much prices have increased (and availability decreased) for all the standard bottlings of the established distillers. Japanese whisky is unquestionably all the rage right now. Of course, when that whisky is a custom blend by a wine and spirits merchant based in Bordeaux, France (BBC Spirits), one also has to take a moment’s pause. It’s not every day a new Japanese whisky shows up at the LCBO here in Ontario, Canada – especially at $70 CAD for a 700mL bottle. When did the player piano conceit come in? We made that way before and kind of laid it in and just kind of kept building it. Partly, but writing so far ahead worked out well because I would just write abstract pieces or emotional melodies, and they created a mood for what they would do visually, like the music for the montage the end of Episode 1 we called the “This World” theme. Was it difficult to have an amorphous musical idea suddenly need to match up to specific scenes? I just made up images in my head of what I pictured Jonah would do based on the script. I love the original Michael Crichton movie from the ‘70s, so I already had ideas in my head about some of the electronic elements I wanted to use. Was that creative difference more daunting? Based on those conversations, I would go into my studio to write pieces to send them to him while he was shooting so he could give me feedback. Most of the time I don’t start really writing until I actually have the visual in front of me on a screen, but in this case I would read the scripts and we would discuss themes or story arcs. As he started working on the scripts I started writing the music in parallel. The score started to come together actually very, very early on. Did he give you any particular ground rules on what he wanted from the musical palette of the show? You worked with Westworld co-creator Jonathan Nolan before on Person of Interest. The music wasn’t restricted to the sequence, so it gave me the freedom to come up with the melody and not try to hit specific visual moments. I came up with that, and then we literally filmed hands playing the piano that was then animated. But what was great about this main title theme was we knew we were going to animate robot hands in the opening credits to play the melody. It’s always difficult to start with the blank page and to try to come up with an identity for a show. How did you approach writing Westworld’s title theme? It was all definitely carefully constructed to the point where the same piece of music might start on the classical piano and then it’ll transition to the player piano. That was always a big part of the plan, that we distinguish between those two worlds. We have everything from these big action pieces in the park and then it goes all the way to these very minimalistic electronic cues. Was it important to have a musical contrast between the score used in the park and behind the scenes?Ībsolutely. Inverse spoke with Djawadi about the difficulty in musically defining a show, and whether or not those player piano songs offer clues about the backstories of particular Westworld characters. The show has also gotten a lot of buzz for the delightful player piano easter eggs, where the musician-less instrument in the park’s saloon twinkles anachronistic renditions of contemporary songs like the Rolling Stones’ “Paint It Black,” Soundgarden’s “Black Hole Sun,” Radiohead’s “No Surprises,” and the Cure’s “A Forest. Gunfights, romances, wild adventures - it’s all possible, that is until the robots start becoming self-aware.ĭjawadi’s score works on two levels: He produces big, sweeping Western themes for scenes in the park but keeps it cold and electronic behind the scenes. The show, based on the 1973 sci-fi film by Michael Crichton, is about a highly advanced Old West-style theme park where visitors can indulge in anything their heart desires, at the expense of the park’s robotic denizens. After being the guy responsible for the earworm opening title music for Game of Thrones, as well as that show’s elegant and wide-ranging ensemble score on, Djawadi was tapped by filmmaker Jonathan Nolan to do the music for HBO’s latest hit series: Westworld. Ramin Djawadi is the reigning king of HBO soundtracks.
